ORTHOGNATHIC & OTHER FACIAL SURGERIES
Orthognathic surgery is a procedure designed to reposition the jaws. The term “orthognathic” comes from the Latin words “ortho,” meaning straighten, and “gnathia,” meaning jaw. The goal of this surgery is to correct any imbalances between the upper and lower jaws.

Sometimes, achieving proper alignment and bite correction cannot be accomplished with orthodontics alone (braces). This is because the underlying bones of your face and jaws, where the teeth are situated, might be misaligned. For instance, you could have a larger lower jaw compared to a normally sized upper jaw.
Orthognathic surgery can address significant jaw discrepancies and enhance both your dental alignment and facial appearance by adjusting the shape of your face.
At Sree Padma Dental Care, we offer a range of orthognathic and facial surgeries designed to address various functional and aesthetic issues. From correcting jaw misalignments that impact your bite and speech to performing cosmetic enhancements for a harmonious facial profile, our state-of-the-art procedures provide significant improvements. Our experienced surgeons use the latest techniques to achieve optimal results, focusing on both the effectiveness and the comfort of your treatment.
How is orthognathic surgery performed?
The surgery may involve only the upper or lower jaw, or, in some instances, both jaws simultaneously (bimaxillary osteotomy).
In most cases, the surgery is performed entirely within the mouth, leaving no external scars. The jawbones are realigned and stabilized using small titanium plates and screws that remain hidden beneath the gums. Immediately after the procedure, the teeth are typically not wired together. Instead, small elastic bands are used between the upper and lower braces to help guide the teeth into their new alignment after a day or so.
