ANTI-DECAY FLUORIDE APPLICATION

Fluoride strengthens teeth and helps prevent cavities, but both insufficient and excessive fluoride can cause issues. Too little fluoride doesn’t protect against decay, while excessive fluoride can lead to dental fluorosis, causing discoloration of the teeth.

HOW DOES FLUORIDE PREVENT CAVITIES Fluoride inhibits loss of minerals from the tooth enamel. Fluoride also effects bacteria that cause cavities by discouraging acid attacks on the tooth. Risk for decay is reduced when fluoride is combined with a healthy diet and good oral hygiene
INDICATIONS Children actively dealing with tooth decay, those undergoing radiation therapy which leads to reduced saliva production, and those with medical or physical disabilities often need tailored dental care. These situations may demand additional attention and specialized approaches to effectively manage and address their unique oral health needs. Professionally applied topical fluorides are applied by the Pediatric Dentist. They are available as gels, solutions and varnishes
How fluorides help in cavity prevention? Fluoride is known to be beneficial for dental health, but both insufficient and excessive amounts can be harmful. A lack of fluoride fails to strengthen teeth against cavities, while too much fluoride, especially in young children, can cause dental fluorosis, resulting in white to brown discoloration of the permanent teeth. Children often receive more fluoride than their parents might be aware of, so understanding the various sources of fluoride is important for preventing dental fluorosis.
